The Fascination of Plants day

The goal of The Fascination of Plants day is to get as many people as possible around the world fascinated by plants and enthused about the importance of plant science for agriculture, in sustainability producing food, as well as for horticulture, forestry, and all of the non-food products such as paper, timber, chemicals, energy, and pharmaceuticals.

In 2015 May 15th we celebrated the Fascination of plants day for the fourth time. Lithuania has started the Fascination of Plants Day with 16 events in 7 cities organized by 26 institutions.

Our Kaunas botanical garden of Vytautas Magnus University celebrated Fascination of plants day with four different parts of programme. First, in the morning, we invited our littlest plant lovers to our garden, they prepared a concert with songs, dances, poems and even flower-themed costumes.

Later on, we travelled to Kaunas old town, where people from our garden, high schools, other universities and even a zoo, joined in a parade for the Fascination of Plants day. More than 200 people created a live flower ornament in the Town Hall Square.

In the evening people were invited to the Botanical garden to enjoy the science fair and tea degustation. A light drizzle did not scare those in the celebration, so at night hundreds of people had an option to try out our night excursion. With an avatar tree, glowing in the dark water lilies, live music and a grand finale – lights show on the wall of our Upper Freda manor.
